I always have home-canned tomatoes, home-canned green beans, and home canned jam in my pantry. This is a great recipe that uses these pantry staples to create a wonderful meal with simple ingredients.

Tips for Making Creamy Tomato Pasta

Ingredients:

Butter: The butter in this recipe works with the flour to thicken the creamy tomato sauce. You can also use cooking oil, but I prefer the taste of butter in this recipe.

Flour: The flour works with the butter as a thickening agent for the sauce. You can use any kind of flour in this recipe.

Home-Canned Tomatoes: The tomatoes are the star of the show! Home-canned tomatoes give the best flavor, but you can use a can of store-bought tomatoes as a substitute in this recipe with no problems. Enjoy the flavor of fresh tomatoes anytime!

Milk: I like to use whole milk in this recipe. The added fat makes a really nice creamy sauce.

Garlic Powder, Parsley, and Salt: These Italian seasoning spices combine with the creamy tomato sauce to make a wonderfully flavorful sauce. If it’s garden season and you have some fresh basil or fresh parsley, adding a few chopped leaves to the sauce also adds a wonderful flavor.

Shredded Cheddar Cheese: What would pasta be without cheese? I like to use cheddar in this recipe, but freshly ground parmesan would also be great.

Rotini Noodles: You can use any kind of short pasta with this recipe, but we like Rotini noodles at my house. Switch it up by using the colorful garden rotini noodles. Penne pasta would also work well. Whole wheat pasta also works well. We have also used chickpea pasta with this recipe and that was delicious!

Parmesan Cheese: Add a little bit of shredded parmesan cheese on top of this pasta right before serving!
